Getting to know you: Linna Drehmel.

Today I’ve invited one of my author mates, Linna Drehmel, to chat about her work and what inspires her. I really hope you enjoy what she has to say. Vic x

Hello Vic, thank you for having me on your blog!

I am a YA Sci-Fi fantasy writer. I write what I love to read. My influences come from a lifetime of reading Sci-Fi fantasy. Some of my favorites, ones that have had a great influenced me are Tad Williams, David Farland, Tracy Hickman and Stephanie Meyer.

Something that has inspired me to write is a quote from a great lady by the name of Marianne Williamson:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are
powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens
us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small
does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that
other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as
children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light
shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are
liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

It was this great quote that encourages me to do push on and tell my stories!

Now when we are talking creative inspiration, well, that’s another thing altogether!

I love music, all different genres but when I write, I have a very small playlist. I call the artists on my playlist my muses: Josh Groban, Depeche Mode and Evanescence. I know that these three have very different sounds but I need to hear different songs at different times. There is a song that helped me create three of my male characters: Symon, Fredrik and Idmund in the HEART books. The song is ‘In Chains’ By Depeche Mode.

I also have found a rare gem to add to my inspiration. A young woman who is a poet on Twitter. She keeps posting the most wonderful things. I have told her she is one of my muses and she thinks it’s great that her words inspire mine; I think that this is what Marianne Williamson was talking about letting our light shine so it will inspire others.

Now what has all this inspired?

I wrote a fun short story called ‘Other Side of the Glass’ that has been published by Trestle Press and is now available for digital down load from Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

Here’s a synopsis: Natalie Ray, a prominent singer on Earth, has been pulled into an alternate reality. She finds that there is magic everywhere in this new world and that she is the daughter of a powerful leader. She must fight to keep her place among them.

It’s a good little fantasy story that came from a larger project that I have been working on called ‘The Magic Song’ and Glass series. The first book will be called ‘Mirrors Other Side’ and should be out in about a year.

Now for me to tell you something I am really excited about! My series called The HEART books. The first in the series is called ‘HEART’s Children’ and is going to be out in a few weeks, it’s also being published by Trestle Press.

I have two synopses written for them:

#1: A planet of trapped souls where the lives and minds of all are controlled by an addictive energy force.

#2: Two people, whose souls are intertwined as one, risk everything to free a world of trapped souls from an addictive energy force.

This small and seemingly perfect little planet is controlled by their God that is called The HEART. The HEART has a secret that the two protagonists – a young married couple – must find out if they are to set their people free.

Now I need to ask you my readers to do me a little favor when you figure out what the secret is, DON’T TELL ANYONE! Please give other readers the chance to have that AH-HA moment for themselves.

I am currently working on Book 2 of the HEART books called ‘HEART’s Choice’; I should be done with it sometime next month.
