Review: ‘Hard Drive’ by Malcolm Holt

‘Hard Drive’ is a collection of short stories set on Tyneside. Malcolm Holt’s writing describes a very different city to the one most people will know.

The ending of each of these stories leaves you wondering what happens next and you wonder whether these are all snippets out of longer pieces of work. Perhaps the beauty of Holt’s writing is that he leaves you wanting more, while your imagination runs wild. Some of the stories have some very gruesome scenes in – be warned.

‘Hard Drive’ is well written, featuring lots of local landmarks. The stories are realistic and the characters show that a lot of research has gone into their backstory, even if it’s not included in the story – Holt knows his characters well.
