2013 has been a great year for you. Do you have a favourite memory professionally?

That’s a tough one. Maybe it’s publishing my fourth thriller with Orion? Or perhaps publishing my first book for younger readers with Chicken House? Oh, but then there’s this other project that’s hugely exciting but top secret, so I can’t tell you about it and . . . No, I reckon it was when I received an envelope full of letters from the Year 6 children of Old Bank Junior School in Mirfield. Brilliant.

My Friend the Enemy

And how about a favourite moment from 2013 generally?

‘Mwahahaha’ being added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

Favourite book in 2013?

Well, It wasn’t published in 2013 but I’m rereading ‘True Grit‘ again and it really is a fantastic book.

Favourite film of 2013?

There are so many to choose from. ‘Evil Dead‘? ‘Django Unchained‘? ‘Gravity‘? ‘Zero Dark Thirty‘? There’s only one way to find out . . . Fiiiiiiiiiight!

Favourite song of the year?

What doesn’t Kill You’ – Jake Bugg.

Any downsides for you in 2013?

I try not to dwell on downsides.

Are you making resolutions for 2014?

I never make resolutions. It’s too easy to let yourself down.

What are you hoping for from 2014?

World domination. Mwahahaha! (With a little bit of peace, love and happiness, of course.)

If Santa was to bring you any one thing you wanted on Xmas morning, what would it be?

A nice surprise.
